I bought a DV6000 about 6 months ago and theres is this annoying issue I can't figure out how to fix. Whenever I restart the computer my pointer speed returns to the default setting (which I feel is too low). Is there any way to change the pointer speed setting permanently.

Have you installed any other mouse/related software? I had the same problem with my laptop, I installed Logitech Setpoint at one point and removed it, but the pointer speed setting was reset every reboot. What I did was disabled Setpoint from starting with Windows. Try looking for a service or process thats associated with a mouse and disable it from starting with Windows.

    thanks for your reply...

I think I am in the same situation. I used to have setpoint installed. Could you give me a little more detail about how to prevent it from starting up. I am using vista and it does not seem to have a startup folder.

    thanks

I have been through the mill with HP and Logitech on this same issue.
I have the VX Revolution mouse. Both claim driver conflict. Ughh.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, heres what I did to disable it:

    1) Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > System Configuration
    2) Select the Startup tab
    3) Look for and clear the checkbox for "Logitech Setpoint"

What are you disabling? Will it effect the special features of my mouse. Such as the button behind the wheel?

Well, if you're still using the mouse (i'm assuming you're using the logitech one) then you need to change the pointer rate using setpoint and not windows (look for Logitech/Setpoint in the start menu). If you're using a different mouse or the touchpad, then its safe to disable setpoint without losing the special features of the mouse (setpoint only applies to logitech mice). If you disabled it accidentally, you can re-enable it following the same procedures, but check the Setpoint box.

I ran into the same problem once I installed SetPoint 4.00 on my Vista laptop. Even after uninstalling it, my pointer speed was reset to a slow speed. After spending time trying out different things with no success, I found something that worked. I installed the SetPoint 3.01 software that came with my mouse. I then rebooted, uninstalled it, and rebooted again. It seemed to clear whatever setting/software was resetting my pointer speed. Now when I set it the speed, it does not change.

The same approach did not work with SetPoint 3.30 or SetPoint 4.00 for me, so perhaps there is something special about SetPoint 3.01. It's pre-Vista, so that may have something to do with it.

    Good luck fixing this!

    Here's your fix:
If you have the SetPoint disabled from start-up, and it is still installed on your pc, just launch it from your program menu. You have to have the logitech mouse connected to see the mouse tab on the SetPoint window. If you don't have SetPoint installed anymore, download and install it, any version would (i.e., 4) work.

Once you are in the mouse configuration tab (in the SetPoint settings window, not the Windows mouse properties), on the left side you'll notice bunch of icons like the battery/pointer etc. One of them is for Game setup. Click on it. Inside, you'll see an option for "Pointer Speed" settings: Use SetPoint or Use OS Implementation. Select the OS Implementation, click Apply, OK.

Then go to your Windows Mouse properties, choose your preffered pointer speed. Restart machine and you will see the settings are intact. At this point you can do whatever you want to do with SetPoint, i.e., uninstall/disable from startup etc.
