Five years ago, myself and a buddy bought a HP zd7000 series notebook with the 17" 1680x1050 screen. Mine is still in use, but his machine bit the dust back in December.
He asked me what I would recommend for a replacement, and I immediately mentioned the dv7 since it came with the same 1680x1050 display, or so it did.
With the dv7-2000 series, HP went from a 16:10 to a 16:9 display aspect ratio, and with it, a drop in resolution to 1600x900.
Frankly, I would not go back down from 1680x1050 after using a notebook like that for so many years, and neither does my friend. So now he is looking for an alternative to the dv7.
Do you think HP should bump up the dv7 from 1600x900? Would you buy the dv7 if it came with a 1920 screen? What resolution would you choose for the dv7 if HP offered the option?

If he's happy with the last display, then I'd get the same thing. If you can go see some screens, that's probably the best option.

I wonder if 16:10 aspect ratio screens are all but dead for notebooks.
Poll - Would you buy the dv7 if it came with a higher-res display???
