Hi, i have a problem with my notebook's screen. I ordered an Elitebook 8730w after i've seen one (and liked it) in HP showroom. The problem is, i received my laptop with a very poor quality screen (not the one that i've seen in showroom). The one i liked was a LG LP171WU3-TLB1 (not dreamcolor) and received a Samsung 170ct02-001 from 2005 (VERY POOR quality LCD).
I have talked with HP customer support (chat on site) and they told me to go to service to change the screen. Did that, but the service guys told me that they ordered the generic part number for the screen and they received the same kind of screen i have now.
My question is, how can i (or them) order a specific model of the screen? Because this happened before in USA (found it on other forums) and there was no problem ordering, or changing the screen. But the guys here at HP Romania told me that they can only order a generic part number and there is a big chance to get the same kind of screen.
Please help, I have my laptop in service for 3rd week now and i'm disperate.

The only way is to order it yourself.
Check with some sellers on ebay for the exact part number (don't fall for the OEM stuff - it will be whatever they have).
Unfortunately, HP cannot order a specific screen, just the part number and they'll get whatever compatible screen comes in. -
i'm not sure i understood what you mean. do i have to order a new laptop ? i already paid for it, and got it but with the wrong screen. I cannot believe that no-one at HP knows what parts goes into their laptops. This is inacceptable

What I am saying is that HP uses many different manufacturers for their screens.
Which one you get is a crapshoot. HP cannot specifically order an LG over a Samsung as they have the same internal HP part number specific to your laptop.
You could buy one somewhere and put it in yourself. Or you can continue to hound HP until one of the techs comes with a panel you like (but that might never happen). -
the problem is, i made my buying choice based on the quality of the screen (i'm working with graphics) and, on the other hand, i could easily take a toshiba which is 1/2 cheaper and don't worry about the screen since with the money left i could buy an external 24" Hi-quality LCD.
Also i cannot believe HP uses the same part number for the dreamcolor and non dreamcolor displays :|
