Hi,
Until now, I've been looking to get a Sony VAIO SR
But then I specced out an even better (read: includes Blu-Ray ROM) dv2700t for an even lower price. And apparently it can get 7 hours off of the 12cell?!!
Is the dv2700t a good laptop? And can it seriously get 7 hours off of the 12cell battery?

It cannot get 7 hours. Never believe advertised manufacturer battery times. Look at a third party review and see how much time they report. Divide by the number of cells in the review unit and multiply by 12 to get your estimated batt life for the 12 cell. (make sure its the standard 6 cell in the review, if its the high capacity.. multiply the batt life by .84 to get the standard 6 cell, and cont to divide by cells from there on) I dont think there's many notebooks in your range that get that kind of life. Make sure you have enough money for an extended warranty. I think blu-ray rom in a 2700t is a waste. The screen can't even take advantage (effectively) of the resolution gain. And, keep in mind that the blu-ray drive will be read only. Therefore, you can't burn anything and that to me is a complete waste. If you feel that you prefer the build quality and size of the sony more, then go for it. If you want to save some money go with hp without the blu ray... 2700t is a good laptop but keep in mind that it is soon to be discontinued and replaced by the dv4t. (that's why you're getting such a killer deal, hp is trying to get rid of them). The advantage is that you have mature product that should have most of its issues worked out..

You can not get 7 hours off of a 12 cell battery. I have the dv2700t series with the 12 cell battery and gets me like 4-5 hours depending on the screen settings and usage. As for me I have the screen brightness to the lowest and always on mute, and wireless on all the time and gets me like 5 hours of usage.
Possible Future Buyer: dv2700t questions - battery life, etc.
