Hello everyone, first post here. Thought I'd join after finding an incredibly useful thread in which one of you posted an entire driver pack for this HP notebook I was downgrading (Vista > XP) for a friend - saved my life.

With this done, I thought maybe I could give my own HP another shot - it's a G62-B88SS which originally came with some variation of Windows 7, which I do not like.

I tried downgrading to XP but, even after I got the Intel RST driver issue sorted out (and was able to actually install XP), I was missing drivers for just about everything. Ended up giving up because I just didn't have the patience to look them all up - and in fact a number of Google searches turned up nearly nothing.

At this point I will say this was with the 64-bit version of Windows XP, which from what I've read is a bit of a mongrel and more closely related to Server 2003 than to XP itself. I wanted to go x64 because I do a fair bit of audio editing (=large amounts of data). I understand it should make a difference.

So... to go back to the question, do you guys think this would be possible - to actually find all the drivers to downgrade this machine to XP? Ideally the 64-bit version, but I'll even consider an x86 downgrade (I just despise the whole Vista/7 user experience... I'm an Ubuntu user as well and I think it kicks a$$, but I need some of the software I use on XP.)

    I'd truly ppreciate any thoughts/opinions/advice/etc.

    Thanks!

The drivers you're looking for don't exist, and even if you stick with x86 you might not find all of them. You could try it, but you'd probably get the best drivers and performance with Windows 7. Did you at least give it a chance, or did you just decide from the get-go that it's too much like Vista and won't be enjoyable to use?

I've been living with it for a few weeks and, let's just say, I'm not particularly fond of it thus far. It hasn't rendered my computer unusable, but I'm still not friends with it.

yeah the jump from xp interface to w7 interface is quite a leap for most older people. Luckily, there are options to gimp it to close as 2000 look and feel.
