    Hey guys,

Is it possible to purchase the extended warranty from HP after you've purchased the notebook? I was thinking from a business standpoint, it would make sense to allow customers to pick it up anytime before the expiration of the original 1 year warranty. I'm thinking about purchasing two more years of warranty because I worry about HP reliability.

    Thanks!

I believe so...I think you have 90 days from official registration of your computer with HP.

I believe you can find more information by hitting hp.com and going through their online shopping section.

    Also, is the warranty transferrable?

Case in point: A few years ago, I purchased an IBM thinkpad used. After two years, one of the ram slots wouldn't read and I had the machine recalled. They didn't care that I wasn't the original purchaser and fixed my machine free of charge because I was within the three year warranty period. :D

I hope HP has the same great service.

Generally not. IBM is AFAIK the only manufacturer that does this (well, maybe Lenovo also now).

I bought the 1 year accidental full warranty for my dv8000t so if i drop or damage it I will get a new one. I was told and the asked again to verify, that I can order up to 2 more years of the same warranty BEFORE my 1 year warranty is up. Hope that helps you decide.

I decided on the 1 year only to make sure that the warranty was necessary.

Hmm... I was tempted to buy the accidental damage warrenty at the time of purchase but held off. I was told by the rep at the store that I only had 90 days to decide to purchase it but according to HP.com I have up to 1 year from the original purchase date to get the warrenty... sweet :)

Thanks guys. If it was me, I'd pick up the warranty. For some reason, my brothers DVD burner has broken twice on his HP desktop. That's my main worry on the notebook. That and the fact that I have my laptop running approximately 5+ hrs a day (it's my only computer).

You can not buy a accidental damage warranty after 1 year who told you that. So if you broke your laptop in one year you would actually call them up buy it and then send it in. You can extend the basic warranty the one that you originaly have before it expires, which is 1 year. If you have ac damage for a year lets say and then you decided to extend it. You can do so before the year expires.

What? My post didn't state that I was told I could buy the accidental warrenty after 1 year. I said that I was told I only have up to 90 to buy after the purchase date by a store rep but when I checked online HP.com states I have up to 1 year to buy the accidental damage warrenty from the original purchase date.
