Is it possible to put a quad core cpu in a hp laptop such as the dv9700? or any other laptop models. Would it be possible for any core 2 duo laptop?
-
No, its not possible.
-
The only mobile quad cores that will be coming out in the future will be on a different platform, not gonna work with yours.
-
Definately not possible for the existing models due to many technical reasons.
Though you can get an overpriced Core2Extreme x9000 for your dv9700 -
-
I wanna try it myself but the x9000 price is extremely ridiculous -
That would be very unwise. First off, you may be able to keep the CPU temperatures stable, but what effect would the increased heat have on other internal components? The chances of component damage/failures would increase considerably, I would imagine. No, putting a quad-core CPU into a laptop is simply not a smart choice.

I believe the only laptops with Quad Cores in them currently are based off of Clevos d901 design, and they aren't the mobile versions. I agree with everyone else, putting a Quad Core in any of the current HP laptops isn't possible.

The current DV9700 that have Penryn processors use socket P.
The Mobile Quad Core Penryn CPU starting with "Q" due out later this year will also be socket P.
Sounds like a simple drop in. Or am I missing something? Like, difference in FSB potentially making them incompatible. But wouldn't the higher clocked 1066mhz FSB of the Montevina Penryns simply downclock to Santa Rosa's 800mhz FSB limit?
Possible to put quad core in hp laptop?
