Picked up a P8600 to replace in my Dell Studio 1555 (selling the T9550) but I've decided to keep the T9550. Now I have a spare P8600 laying around. My brother plans on picking up a Compaq CQ60-410US.

I looked at the P8600 and Celeron 900 specs and they both use PGA478 sockets so I'm assuming they'll work. Last thing I want to do is open up the Compaq and find out it doesn't.

Also, are Compaqs' easy to open up and upgrade, specifically the CPU and RAM?

According to CQ60 Maintenance and Service Guide, here, for intel platform, CQ60 use two chipsets, GL40 and GM45. CQ60 with Celeron may use with GL40, the one that has been discussed here

There is a possibility P8600 can be used with GL40, but there is no guarantee it will work.

Changing CPU for HP/Compaq consumer notebooks are known to be difficult, you need to disassemble most of the notebook parts but not for RAM

Please bare in mind that changing processor may void your warranty.

    Good luck
