Hi everyone,
I've visited these forums for a few months now, but this will be my first post.
I ordered a pavilion dv6tse a few months ago, but unfortunately had multiple sound and video problems with my system. After sending it in for 3 repairs, hp finally gave me a new laptop yesterday with the following specs:
dark umber
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1
2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i7-2620M (2.7GHz, 4MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
2GB Radeon(TM) HD 6770M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Dual Core Processors
8GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
No Additional Office Software
No additional security software
9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Despite the replacement, I've become disgusted by hp's customer support and would like to simply sell this laptop and purchase a system through Dell. (I've had 3 Dells before - loved all of them) Also...it doesn't have a back-lit keyboard, which is a huge disappointment for me.![]()
I haven't used this computer at all, but have opened the replacement box in order to return my old machine.
My question is: Is this something I could feasibly sell on ebay? I've never sold anything of this caliber before and would like to at least get $12-1300 for the system. This configuration on hp's website costs $1425.99 before taxes/shipping. Also, although this could possibly be "looked down on," could I return this product to hp for a refund like what's normally possible when placing an order? Surely hp won't let me do this...
Thanks for your help!

if i understand their policy correctly, anytime you have something delivered to you, even an exchange like this one, you have 21 days to return it for a full refund

The return would be based off of the original order. Being that the notebook, originally was received three months ago, I doubt that HP would refund anything at this point.
You would want to obviously check out other auctions in order to see what others are selling their machines for. This would give you a rough idea of what you could expect to fetch for yours. My opinion is that you would not get anything close to your original purchase price. Keep in mind, IMO, most people shop eBay to find a "deal". You could first try to ask for your selling price. But you would be out the cost for listing if there are no bidders. That cost is calculated based upon the item's asking price or final sold price depending upon the type of auction you choose. And it could take two or three times of listing your item before it actually sells (you could also get lucky and it take just one). -
First off, I have to say that you have a very good laptop on your hands. Assuming that the new laptop works well, I would suggest keeping it. You will not be able to find anything this good at a decent price by competitors. Yes, I understand that HP support is terrible (I waited over a month for my order to be built), but will you have to deal with them again?
That being said, you should be able to fetch at least [assumption] $1000 [/assumption]. If that much is acceptable, I would start an auction ta that amount and see how high it goes.
As far as return goes, you can "guilt" HP to accept it for a return. I would assume that they would accept is; if they don't just complain about all the hassles you have had. You would probably only get the price of you original.
Ultimately the choice is yours, but...
My suggestion: Keep it
Possibly re-selling a new replacement dv6
