Hi everyone, someone hit my laptop lid with their palm two weeks ago at the time I didnt think it was hard but when I looked on the screen it was grey and lines were dancing around.

I restarted and everything was fine. However, today for the first time I am noticing that when the computer goes into sleep mode when I move my finger on the touchpad to wake it up the computer VERY briefly shows a bevy of lines before returning normally to the desktop. It is as if though it is waking up from a screen with lines.

Does anyone think I should be worried?

How easy is this to fix?

What do you think has gone wrong?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Normally when you see vertical or horizontal lines across the screen it is either caused by a loose cable(unlikely but possible) or by what is called 'Tab Sep' or 'Tab Separation'... This happens when a connection to one of the row or column of pixels becomes loose or disconnected from the PCB...

A way to test for this is by flexing the LCD back and forth and see if you can replicate these lines if so you will have to send it out for service... if you cannot replicate this it may just be a glitch with the driver.

either way if you can/cannot replicate the problem you can send it in for service as long as it is still under warranty...

    Hope this helps.

Hi FunnyX, the problem is now out of control. I cannot replicate the lines by lexing the LCD back and forth. It only occurs when the lid is closed and then reopens. Im going to take a pic the next time it occurs.

I called a PC tech and he said that is could be a video card problem.

    Is that possible?

It is possible that the video card may be malfunctioning, but in your case, it's much more likely that the LCD causing the problem, and not the video card (considering someone actually hit the LCD with their hand).
