I have a Compaq615 laptop and recently had problems with my power cable working. It failed work unless I wiggled it around until I got the right angle (usually involved pressing the adapter into the laptop very hard).

I bought a new power cable and this started working fine until recently. Now the cable (which is brand new) doesn't fit inside the laptop fully and when I put it in a little bit it works but gets very very hot, I mean, too hot to touch (the little metal connector that actually goes inside the laptop)

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a repairable problem?

Is it a problem with the connector inside the laptop?

I've seen this on other laptops & it's generally repairable, although not by me. If your new cord is the right one then the problem is with the connector inside the laptop. The connector is getting hot because it's not making a good connection. If the connection is bad enough this can lead to arcing-definitely not good but probably isn't happening, yet. I'd take it to an electronics repair shop myself, but you might be able to find somebody else who could guide you thru the repair if you want to do it yourself.
