Hey all. Just got a new dv6t. I notice the power lights on the body and the right side of the laptop are flashing whenever the laptop is in sleep mode. Is this normal? It is a bit distracting when I see it in the corner of my eye. Can it be turned off?

    Thanks

The light on the side blinks when laptop is in sleep mode; Don't know about the body, as I shut down the lid when laptop goes to sleep.. I am also annoyed a little bit by it, but never thought it was worth the effort to hunt for a solution for it.

If it's in "sleep mode", I would assume that you are not using it. Why would anyone stare at a laptop that they are not using? No offense and really not trying to be a wise-guy, but c'mon man... go to another room or something.

I suppose if you are looking to quell that problem, then perhaps looking at this from a different approach may be better. Disable sleep mode through the power options applet and instead merely have the notebook's screen turn-off after a determined amount of time. If you like the security feature of having to input your account's password after resuming from sleep mode, then you can also enable having to do so after, again, a determined amount of user inactivity.

Sleep mode does help prolong battery life, I understand. However, sometimes we just can't have our cake and eat it too.

Or change it to Hibernate instead. Then, the light won't blink.

Blinking = indicate that it is sleeping. I think it is universal for all laptops when they are "sleeping".

Sleep mode is usually used for fast warm bootup time to last state at a cost of some power. It will continually drain the battery to maintain that state in ram which is volatile.

So, the drawback if it loses all power ie remove both battery and AC. That last state is lost.

Well I am using the laptop as a desktop replacement, so if I walk away and watch a movie on the couch, I see a flashing light in the corner of my eyes. Definitely not a big deal though. Will turn off sleep mode, guess there is no reason for it if I am plugged in anyway.

    Thanks!
