Hiya,
Proud owner of a new Compaq 8510p here. Its a pretty nice machine with one minor exception. I am very disappointed with the lack of control over power management settings out of the box. Am I missing something, all I seem to be able to control is the bare minimums that are supported in windows control panel. Has anyone found an application that provides more fine granular control over PM on this unit?
Thanks!

Only one problem, running XP.

Vista's fine, but I'm in the same boat w/ XP.
I haven't chased this yet so whatever you find let us know.
I suggest you call HP and see if there's a utility that's somehow not made it onto the website. -
What sort of control do you want? You can use NHC to change HD speed (spin down, no spin down, max performance), monitor temps, change from dynamic switching in multipliers, full speed all the time or max battery (lowest multiplier). You can also change internal clock if you really want (ie making the T7500 at 50% internal clock at full speed would be 1.1Ghz instead of 2.2Ghz, and at lowest speed it would be 400Mhz (1/2 of 800Mhz) - hope that makes sense!
Hopefully one day it will be updated so you can control voltages on santa rosa cpus. It also doesn't read real time CPU clocks on Santa Rosa, but the 'profiles' still work. Its free and widely used (I believe).
Power Managment, Speed Step more control?
