I currently own a presario v5000. I was wondering if the power scheme just changes the power settings...or does it actually change the performance for instance, if it was set at "Home/office"

Really depends on what you are doing. For internet or office probably won't be a huge difference full performance and battery mode. For crunching databases or using Photoshop will seem more noticeable.

Hi Hoosier,
Yes it can change the performance. But as ZaZ said how much, if any that you notice will greatly depend on what you are doing. The processor and the display can scale back in battery mode to conserve battery power.
Hope this helps. -
Windows' power management uses only partially the power saving potential of the Turions (I think it uses three steps). Home/Office or Laptop mean your CPU will run most of the time at 800 mhz and occasionally will jump to its max. Always on, on the other hand, disables this and the CPU goes on full throttle all the time (more heat, less battery)
Many people use RMClock or NHC to manage the power schemes.
