I own a HP DV6000. I also work on laptops. a friend brought me a HP DV4 with no battery and no AC power supply, and wants me to see if it can be fixed.

Rather than investing in a power supply for what may be a lost cause, I am wondering if someone sells a plug-in adapter that will allow me to use my DV6000 power supply to power up the DV4.The voltage/wattage specs are compatible. (My DV6000 plug has a female center pin, while the DV4 requires a male center pin in the plug for it)

I know it's not the best solution...but you could invest in one of those generic power adapters that comes with a handful of different adapter tips. Might be useful since you work on laptops and other people may forget to bring you the power supply or a battery?

Thanks for the reply, jaxhokey. I think I'll just buy a cheap dedicated ac power supply. I can get one for less than ten bucks. The "universal" adapters have a reputation for being unreliable. I was hoping someone might know of a source for a simple plug-in adapter.

I just want to see if it will POST. It doesn't have a hard drive, either. I usually test notebooks without hard drives by running a linux live cd or flash drive. If it will run Ubuntu it's worth putting a hard drive and operating system in.

    Thanks again,

A plug-in adapter would be too easy wouldn't it? ;)

You can buy just the end adapter on eBay for just alittle $$$. You might be waiting for a month while it ships from China, but if money is the issue...
