Ok, got the Pavillion dv7t Quad Edition with Ivy Bridge (i7-3610)

    a few questions

    1. bloatware - there are hundreds of posts all over the place telling how to reduce the bloatware on this thing. I got the 3-disk "recovery" CDs as well as the 4th driver CD from HP. If I do the "windows 7 clean install" do I still need to do the recovery backup creation as mentioned in the (possibly out of date?) sticky in the main HP forum?

    2. more bloatware - if I decide not to go that route, is there any of the HP pre-installed crap I SHOULD keep?

    3. I got the screen upgrade, and I must admit, I am horribly disappointed. Everything is extremely washed out and looks terrible next to my Lenovo x220i. Yes, I know, IPS screens rock, but this screen looks terrible by comparison. Am I doomed, or is there simply a setting that is out of place?

    1) Do the Win 7 clean install (video on how to here: How to Restore HP Laptop to Clean Windows Install without Disks - YouTube)

    2) Essential HP utilities will remain, such as HP CoolSense and HP Update tools so you won't need to reinstall anything essential.

    3) Sounds odd to me, I found the 1920 x 1080 screen to be excellent, it's a matte screen so that may make it appear less shiny next to a glossy screen. However, if you're looking at an X220 obviously it's matte and you're used to it. Again, here's a video I did of the 1920 x 1080 dv6t Quad Edition screen I had so see how it compares:

been playing around with my display settings cause i felt it wasn't looking its best, the colors looked kinda washed out...

i was tweaking contrast/brightness etc. and got it better but it wasn't quite there yet..

and compared to my main desktop monitor you could definitely tell a difference...

so i went into my settings and found this option

I checked the box for "use extended display ID data" (EDID)

and bam! it totally looked better colors look great and max payne 3 looked way better.

i know u probably have nvidia or intel drivers but maybe it has this option in yur control panel somewhere try it out and let me know if it helps.

makes me feel alittle better about opting for the 1366x768 display at least its looks better than it did
