Why Compaq decided that I can't tweak my own computer?
I just don'w know what to do, I played NFSU2 and even the game passed the recomended requirements, ran slow (after a while even slower), the laptop had 256 RAM so I bought another 256 and I noticed no change at all, even windows seems to be the same; I ran some benchamark tools and all of them say that I have to check some settings in the BIOS to improve performance but the BIOS settings are very poor, I just can change so few options and none of them are very important.
So I searched for a BIOS update for this specific model, I found the Compaq website and got the update, KF.F.14; nothing changed, the same, so I did more search and got KF.F.18 to 24 (for the specific model) but I couldn't install none of them, I got a message: this BIOS is not for your model, BIOS is not flashable (ERROR CODE -144).
Anywhere I asked I got the same answer: 'can't be changed'.
Maybe I asked in the wrong places, I hope so, because I want to improve the performance of my pc.
So, is there any way to change advanced BIOS settings?
Why I can't upgrade the BIOS anymore?
If needed I can post results from tests.
    Thanks.
    Best regards.

There could be a couple possibilities why the updated BIOS's won't install:

    1. The BIOS is not for your exact model. Your notebook is a Presario 2500 series, but it should have some letters after it, possibly even a 2510 or 2520, etc...

    2. The systemboard is defective and therefore not capable of being upgraded

I just checked the minimum requirements for this game, and it needs a DirectX 9 compatible card with at least 32MB (GeForce2 or higher). This card they're describing has dedicated video memory. Your graphics processor is an ATI Mobility with 16MB-64MB of UMA (shared) video memory. These types of GPU's are not designed for gaming, actaully most GPU's with shared video memory is not recommended for game play. This could be your main performance bottleneck.

Regarding the BIOS's advanced settings, you're not gonna be able to get access to them. HP/Compaq has limited all their BIOS's to just the basics. The only way to get the advanced settings is to find a hacked BIOS.
