I have a three year old Compaq Presario 2715US notebook that has developed hinge problems in the past few months. It is now to the point where I have to support the monitor with a pillow in order to keep it from flopping down.
I have an extended warranty through Circuit City and sent the notebook in for repair. They refused to fix it stating that it was abused (which it was NOT). I spent many many hours on the phone between the warranty company, Compaq, and Circuit City. The only offer to fix it was from Compaq, with an estimated cost of up to $600. Needless to say, I did not send it in for repairs [!].
I would like to know if anyone has had similar problems and if they were able to find someone who would replace the hinges for a fair price.
Any help greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

It's not the matter of just changing the hinges which is the problem, it's the fact that Compaq/HP sells the entire LCD with front bezel, LCD back cover & all hinges as one unit. That's why it's so expensive. Other companies like Toshiba & IBM sell all these parts as individual items, but not HP/Compaq. The only way to just get the hinges is to try eBay or find someone who has a dead unit they want to dump off. Otherwise you're stuck. Sorry.

I also had started to get similar problems with my 2715EA Presario.. half of the right hinge is already cracked, its about 3 years now also.. and is just a gift for me, so far I know the warranty already expired. I am just taking good care of it now.. I'm not closing the lid anymore except when really needed..
