I have an ancient Compaq Presario 1920 (a PII-300) that I am trying to retstore a little bit for my daughter to use as a cheapo netbook. It all works fine and WIN XP loaded fine. My problem is that the machine will not power down.
Even before WIN XP was installed (the hd just booted to a prompt) - the laptop would never completely shut off. Even if you pressed the power switch. I had hoped that once WIN XP was installed this would get fixed but it didn't. When WIN XP shuts down, it ends with a screen that says something to the effect of "YOU CAN SHUT NOW POWER THE COMPUTER OFF" - but you can't!
I know to disconnect the ac and remove the battery to power it down but that is a bit inconvenient for a teenage girl.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
