I've got an M2000 that has been GREAT for 2 years. I only have 1 usb port left on it, which sucks! Anywho, It's got an Intel 1.4ghz cpu in it right now. I was thinking the AMD 3000+ might be faster... is it possible to just swap them out and have it fire up with little to no problem? Or if any newer cpus are compatible, I am all ears! I'm just looking for more performance.

I also just read a Turion ML34 would work. Would that be considerably faster? Are they an easy swap?

An AMD CPU won't be compatible but there should be faster Intel CPUs that are. Check the service guide. Go to the hp.com downloads page for your notebook and click the Manuals link on the left-hand side.

Edit: where did you read that a Turion ML34 would work? I don't see how that's possible.

Your probably correct. I just went back and looked and it was formerly a Sempron processor. I'll go check that out right now, thanks.

Okay, it looks like the best available processor is a Intel Pentium M 750 (1.8GHZ)

Is that a reasonably good and noticeable upgrade from a Celeron M 360 1.4ghz?

It should be. Much larger cache (Intel chips are highly cache dependent), decent percentage increase in clock speed... if the price is right, go for it.

I can get a new one for $15.99 and used ones for about half that. Sounds pretty cheap to me. I already have 1GB ram.
