Hello, I'm new here and I have a problem and I hope someone here can help me cause I'm desperate....

My notebook is a Compaq Presario V4202EA, built in 2005.
This notebook was sold then without WIFI card onboard.
However, there is a Mini-pci port present so I want to try and add WIFI to it.
On the website of HP(who handles the support of Compaq machines) there are drivers for this notebook available; 1 for Intel Pro cards and 1 for Broadcom 4306 cards.
First I tried an Intel card but that didn't work; the machine didn't even boot and gives a warning: Unsupported device detected..prease remove and reboot.
Later I discovered that HP added a "whitelist" of devices to the BIOS so only devices with approved ID's can be used.
Next, I tried a Broadcom 4306 card and this one was accepted by the BIOS. Then I had to install the WIFI antennas cause those weren't present too. I had to dismantle the whole machine but I succeeded.
Next step was to obtain a front bezel with a WIFI ON/OFF-button which was missing too.
SO, now I had all the hardware in place... installed the drivers and utilities and gave it a try.
Broadcom is recognised in Control Panel, blue led lights when WIFI is switched on, WIFI-icon appears in systemtray.....but no acces points are found! I have a Siemens Experiabox up and running for a long time and with any USB or PCMCIA-WLAN is it found immediately but the Broadcom won't.
When I use the utility I can see that it's looking for AP's but no luck.
It seems as it's looking on the wrong frequency. Is that possible?
I thought that these frequencies were standard.

Anybody has an idea what could be wrong, please?

Maybe if you got a WiFi card that was intended for France, I think they reserve the 2.4GHz spectrum for their military. Most likely you simply have a bad card or didn't get the antenna connectors plugged in all the way. Without antennas the range is pretty much nil.
