Did anyone buy the compaq V5000z yet? could u tell me how long it took for u to recieve it?

I ordered it thru costco, i checked da Hp site and they were about the same price, and i picked the convience of costco (i believe you can just return it to their stores in 6 months if you dun like it)

the order was recieved on the first of this year, and while i ordered it, i was sure it said the shippiong date was about the 14th, and i got the free shipping and says " Standard shipping is via FedEx 3-day service"

does any1 no if they ship a little early or a little late? and if so, is there an estimate on how long it took for them to make?

Oh and does any1 have actual comfirmation if the V5000z with a turion Ml-40 uses DDR2 or just a mistake?
or does it support it but not able to use its full speed? i would like the buy a DDR2 since they seem cheaper.

    any1 no if it'll support PC3200?

i no its a lot lol. plz answer if u can. thnx a lot

The HP information is wrong. None of the AMD cpu's on the market works on DDR2 memory. There is a good reason for this since the memory controller is located on the cpu itself AMD will need to update the on board memory controller before it can accept any sort of newer memory. Also AMD integrated memory controller design is much more sensitive to latency(timings) so DDR2 400 and DDR2 533 are not fast enough to overcome this latency and will run slower than most DDR400 memory. You are only going to see some improvement only when DDR2 667MHz is released.

So they are releasing dual core Turions and updating all of their desktop line as well sometime in 2006 to support DDR2 memory. Until the new socket comes out DDR memory is the standard for any AMD processor.

Finally, yes they do support DDR 400(PC3200) memory.

and its a big relief to no it can use PC3200.

Well, take it when it comes and play around with it. If you don't like it, send it back to HP.

    Hi Miner,

I quote "Finally, yes they do support DDR 400(PC3200) memory."

Is it still the V5000z defanged like previous thread of R4000z we all used to read about? I have no idea that we can put 1 slot of DDR333 and one DDR400 and the lappy still run in DDR400 speed. I wish to do that if you by any chance know how...

Or were you referring to 1 or 2 slot with equal DDR400 speed?

    sorry for my question

    Cheer buddy,

Defanged?? If you meant dual channel, then no the V5000z is not defanged as the Turion64 is capable of using only single channel memory. Even in the r4000 it is not such a big deal as the real world significance of dual channel memory is negligible for the average user.

If you put memory of different speeds in any system, be it a desktop or a laptop, the faster memory will always run at the same speed as the slower memory. So I was referring to only using DDR400 memory.

So what is it...can the AMDs use only PC2700 RAM or can you upgrade to faster RAM...seems to be difference of opinions on this thread and others?

    Helo Onliluv,

Do you mind giving us some reviews, pictures and comments about your new V5000z lappy once you get it. That would be a tremendous review =)

    Hi Miner,
Now I understand you =).. Probably it should be better buying the 1GB PC2700 200pin rather then the PC3200, or perhaps the other way around?...
    Please suggest =)

Thank you so much all.. :D :D

Yes, you can use DDR400(PC3200) memory. There is no doubt about this. You can look around AMD website for the specifications and they will list the types of RAM the cpu's will support. Take a look in there if you want solid confirmation. The only issue here is if you pair it with PC2700 memory(this is true for both Intel & AMD based systems), the faster RAM will run at the same speed as the slower module. This is very logical since the slower RAM cannot overclock to run at the same speed as the faster RAM, but the faster RAM can easily underclock itself to run at slower speeds since memory are always backward compatible.

    Hope that clears your doubts.

Well, It would be nicer get PC3200, but honestly it does not make a huge difference for most people. You wil notice some improvements in memory benchmarks and some overall performance improvements, but largely if you are using the laptop for basic use PC3200/PC2700 does not make any noticable difference.

Yes, but I recommend getting a 7K100 series drive. The E7K100 is an Enterprise-class drive, intended for servers rather than notebooks. It doesn't have the power management presets that the regular 7K100 series drives have.

    Helo Onliluv,

I will not flame / blame / grief toward you. I promise!!!

He he, just make lots of pictures, and do some processor intensive loads and make it crazy - LOL. We shall know this baby soon. Please, please, please let the lappy come onto your lap soon. YES

    Cheer,
