    Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario V6310US that I just got used from a relative a couple weks ago. I sent it in and had the motherboard replaced through the HP Warranty Enhancement program after overheating (system didn't work when I got it).

Now I don't have much experience with HP/Compaq notebooks, or HP/Compaq in general, but the fan on this thing sure seems loud. I mentioned that on the repair questionnaire when I sent the notebook in. They never said a word about it.

Anyway, the system runs great now, new mobo, new BIOS (F.40) to correct fan control algorithm. Just seems loud, compared to my Gateway MX7118. So, is this normal for this system, or is it on its way out?

    Thanks!
    Bryan

I'm not sure, but I *think* you get a new fan/heatsink assembly when you get a new motherboard. And even if you didn't, I think the loudness is normal. I've played with a friend's HP pavilion dv6000 before (HP version of the presario V6000), and the fan on that was pretty loud when it kicked on.

In other words, I think the fan noise is normal. It seems like HPs just tend to have louder than usual fans, that's all.

Ok, well if that is the case, that is nice to know. I know with these the new BIOS keeps the fan running constantly. I actually can't tell if it's changing speeds or not as it randomly seems to make more noise. Not air noise, but motor noise.

I just contacted HP e-mail support, my CPU fan was not replaced...
So I guess I am on my own. I can get a replacement HSF assembly if I need one. I guess I should just keep an eye on things... it seems to cool the CPU ok for a notebook. 30-40C Idle.. 70-80C under load (most load = gaming). Sound normal? My Gateway runs slightly cooler.

I'm guessing the fan runs like that because it's been set to run none stop more or less by the bios so your GPU doesn't fry again, only one way to get it to not cut in as much is to upgrade the cpu to a 45 nanometer architecture.
