I got my V6000 four months ago at Best Buy. This is a little out of character for me but I got the Geek Squad to preinstall, as I was busy and lazy at the time..So anyway, it was all good to go when I brought it home. The boarding house I'm at has free wireless, bless them, so I was just using that with no issues, until a few days ago when I came home to find that the adaptor was no longer working. The indicator light that's usually blue was red--And yes, the switch was in the right position. I've tried switching it on and off numerous times. In desperation, I tried to reinstall Vista, which availed me nothing of course.
It must be either a driver or hardware issue, but I find it odd that it simply stopped functioning while I was out at work. Is it possible to wear these things out from overuse? This is my first time using wireless, so feel free to point and laugh.
Sorry I can't provide more details on the error messages, I'm posting from work and I forgot to write them down. I'm hoping someone has been through this and will be able to provide some insight.![]()

The first thing I would check is your device manager. find "Network adapters" and see if your wireless card is even listed. if it is, check the status by selecting your card. If you see a yellow "?" next to it, you need to reinstall the driver. If you don't see it listed at all try to do a new hardware search. if that fails, bring laptop back to geeks and have them replace your card.. I hope this helps.

Hello.
I just got the same problem.
Did you manage to get it working? My led is the same as yours... red light always...
Please, send me back a reply if you got a clue.
Thanks -
Hello Gustavo,
I never did get it working. I brought it to Best Buy, and the Geek Squad agreed that the wireless card had just...stopped working and was not repairable.
I was able to get it sent back to HP and have the card replaced for free under the warantee, but it took 3 weeks to get my laptop sent back to me. Hopefully you have a warantee that will still cover the replacement.
Hope that helps! -
Wow. I have the exact same problem, and I've tried everything to fix it, including reinstalling Vista, which got me nowhere. The only thing I can tell you is that, instead oh hibernating your computer, shut it down, and the next time you get on, wait about 15 minutes, and the switch will finally turn on. It's not a very timely solution but its what I do to make sure I can always be on when i need to.
Now that i know this problem exists with other people using the same computer, maybe someone should wake up HP and tell them to recall the V6000 series. -
