When my sister was using it the screen went fuzzy, so she turned it off but when she tried to turn it back on it wouldnt start. The power light goes on, the screen stays off, and the processor light just flashes maybe 3 times and then nothing.

I tried putting in a different hard disk but it does the same thing, replacing battery....blah blah blah....

Could it be a screen problem since it went fuzzy?

My last resort is to take to the repair shop. ;)

    Try the following:

    1) Take out the battery pack and unplug the AC power

    2) Hold the power button for 30 seconds or more

    3) Only plug in the AC power this time and try starting up again

Oh no. This is the beginning of the infamous overheating problem resulting in dead graphics chip on the motherboard. It has happened to 9/10 V3000 models I've seen so far. It is a serious design issue and HP refuses to recall the product, but will replace the motherboard under warranty.

I think Chrixx is on to something. My sister has a terrible habit of using the laptop on the bed, this probably caused it to overheat....Warranty has expired.

Anonhp - I tried the website but the product number is not covered under the Limited Warranty Service.

I guess I have to get the graphics chip checked out. Does this mean that the entire motherboard has to be replace or just the chip?

If I remember correctly, they'll replace the board even if it is out of warranty. That is because HP is trying to avoid a class action lawsuit that could hurt their bottom line.

i know it's a very old thread, my friend came to me for help for her laptop. and when i ran orthos with coretemp the CPU hit 95C ! the TJmax was only 100C! so I figured the laptop needed some serious mod. I cut open all the vents. now the fan is full circle opening and the rear is direct out, the copper fins have no plastic to block air flow, and i even changed the fans to a third party fan with higher rating, on top of that i used AS5. and after assembling together. the max temps are now 65C, coupled with RMclock, the temps drops further to 55C. that's a MASSIVE drop. the venting design has some serious flaws.

LOL i havent done such massive cooling mod for a long time.

for those want to know, the original fan is 1.75ws i changed the fan to a 4w fan.

Hi flipfire, I appreciate your answer to the problem with the presario 3000 not booting, have done as you suggested and works, previously had dead laptop, no screen, nothing except pretty blue lights. The question is how do i stop having to do as you instruct, holding power button down for 30 sec's etc everytime I want to start my laptop, cheers, ofishl1
