I need to order some more memory for my daughter's laptop, it's a Compaq Presario v5000, according to the label affixed to the underside of the unit. However, everything I've seen online, indicates that this model ought to have an AMD-based cpu. However, cpu-z insists that it has a Celeron M 420 (1.46 GHz)!

At any rate, all I really want to do is give her machine more memory. Cpu-z says it's currently got two 256MB modules, each rated as DDR2 @ 266 MHz, with a max bandwidth of PC2-5300 (333 MHz).

Does it matter what speed memory chips I put in this laptop? I was planning on just putting in a single 1 GB, and noticed that the old, slower memory is quite a bit more expensive than the newer ones. Is the voltage the only thing I really need to worry about?

I've now triple-checked, the label DEFINITELY says it's a "Presario v5000" (no trailing 't' or 'z' or anything else), and it's definitely a celeron. The laptop still has one of those retarded "Intel Inside" stickers on it.

If CPUz says Intel, then it's Intel. Get 1gb DDR2 200pin (either ddr533 or ddr667) and you'll be fine.
