My new DV6700 is in Anchorage Alaska due to my doorstep in 2 days.

Just checking around I see there are promotions on upgrades, such that if I were to respec my machine exactly the same, I'd save about $250.

Does anyone have any experience with HP's price protection policy.

I hear you may have to send back and re-purchase. Sounds like they want to make it a pain for you do it, but do they really want mass returns if people want to take advantage?

When you get your laptop, call HP and explain. They credited me without any hassle a few months ago.

They credited me as well (nearly 200 dollars) even though i had used a coupon at the time of purchase. Definitely give them a call!

Its because of you that I just went and called them up about the price changes, and the guy gave me $200 credit. when the difference really was about $60. He was very nice.

    Timely question.

I ordered a dv9700t on January 7, 2008. The next day while looking for information on that laptop here, I stumbled on a coupon code NB9400 that claimed $400 off. So my adventure begins:

I get the employee discount purchase program pricing from HP (spif from my employer). The total of my configuration under EPP was $1474.

I saw this coupon, and decided to go back and re-configure the system to see what I would save forfeiting the EPP pricing and instant rebate. When I started the configuration, I noticed that the 8600m GS was now HALF OFF, as were Blu Ray and HD Optical Drives. Anyway, I configured an exact copy of my laptop and it came in $130 cheaper, but, the checkout system wouldn't let me apply the coupon code (because I had EPP pricing).

So, I called and got to their customer resolution team who went ahead and credited me the $130. I asked about the coupon and he said, "sorry, it doesn't apply to this order".

I hung up, went back to their website, created a new account (sans EPP), and configured the same laptop *again*. This time--without EPP--the coupon code NB9400 worked! My new configuration came to $1161 (including tax and shipping).

So....I called the HP sales desk, told him nothing about my previous experiences and asked him to help me configure a system with the coupon code NB9400. I read him the specs, he built the config and it came out to...$1161 with shipping.

I explained the previous purchase, he discussed options, and he made it pretty clear that the best way to get the $1161 price was to buy it at that price and when the ORIGINAL laptop showed up, to not even take it out of the box, but as soon as it arrives, call and cancel the order, apply their shipping label and send it back. He said a refund would post to my account within 3-5 business days.

I now have TWO DV9700T's on the way to my house configured EXACTLY the same. I paid $1474 for the first and $1161 for the second. The first one is going back.

    BTW:

    DV9700t, 2.2g C2D, wsxga+ 17", GF8600m GS, 2x120 7200rpm, 2gb RAM, Lightscribe, Mic/Fingerprint/Webcam, Intel AGN Wireless, HiCap Battery

funny, I have 2 laptops sitting at home right now with the same situation.

It seems PCs are like airline seats. Ask someone in your aisle what they paid in for their seat and I guarantee it wont be the same as you....!

From my experience the student discounts and company discounts are almost never better than coupons that HP offers.

My last experience purchasing a laptop from HP wasn't too much fun. I bought the laptop and two days later they had a 30% off coupon available so I decided to call and see if they would match it. They said they couldn't change the order or match the price, so I had to return the laptop and re-order with the new coupon code. HP really isn't all about good money management are they? It's not that hard to apply a credit, and they end up wasting more money shipping and then reselling the laptop I sent back at a lower price. Kind of makes you wonder about the people running the business and making the policies (must not be the brightest bunch).

I ordered with a 20% off coupon and when I got my laptop they had a 30% coupon active so I called them and they refunded ~$170.00 back to me without any issue. The only thing that they did do which was annoying was try to sell me ink cartridges..ugh lady I said no 4x, no means no! lol but eventually she shut up and sent me my money.

Okay, thank, because the guy told me that it would take 5 - 7 business days for it to get posted. I was kind of worried when he said it would take that long.

But he told me not to worry and it will be posted 2 my account.
