    Hello all:

I am in the market for a laptop for college, as many are this time of year. My sights are firmly set on the dv6000t. I am planning on purchasing a pre-assembled model from a chain store. I am probably getting the dv6275us with the follwoing specs:

    - Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology featuring Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5600; 1.83GHz
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    - 2048MB DDR2 SDRAM
    - NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400 with discrete 128MB
    - 160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    - LightScribe Super Multi 8x DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    - 15.4" WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280x800) Display
    - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    - 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader
    - HP Imprint Finish & HP Pavilion WebCam with Integrated Microphone

I am wondering if waiting a few months until late spring will save me money on this set up due to the Santa Rosa release, or will it most likely not fall much in price for a good long while. I also dont want to have HP just start putting Santa Rosa chips in their laptops right when it is released and then have to pay a $300 premium just to get the same set up with Santa Rosa, as I think that this set up will be fine for my needs.

I don't know much about processor releases and when they will be incorporated into notebooks such as the dv6000t and how they will effect the pricing of last-gen technology. So is it worth waiting to Santa Rosa release or just find a good deal now? Thanks for the insight.

    Dave

if you feel that this set up is what you have been waitig for i would say go for it
santa rosa is scheduled to be relaeased early Q2 and it will take some while for it to trickle into the market but as the santa rosa is rolled out keep in mind that it will be bundle with draft n wireless as well as direct x 10
everyday new technology is rolled out if you keep waiting in my opinion ull haf to wait for quite along time as theres always something better coming up
but i would say that the wait is quite worth it but maybe itll be quite a wait as proper rigs with consumer prices wont hit the market till june in my opinion
so its completely up to you

In May you'll see new notebook models released. And HP will be there with something for sure. The cost of current Core 2 Duo processors will fall to what Core Duo processors cost now and Santa Rosa processors will adopt the price of what you see with Core 2 Duo now. So, yes, the models you see now should see a bit of a price drop ($100 maybe, not much more than that though) but sometimes finding them is tougher since they get discontinued in production. And sometimes the newest technology is just so tempting that you'll want to spend an extra $100 - $200 to get it.

If you need a notebook and can use it now, go for it. If you don't really need it and can hold on for 2 months, I'd say stick it out.

Santa Rosa is coming sooner than most people think. It was even posted here as a news item a couple of days ago that Dell and one other manufacturer is releasing a Santa Rosa model in April.
