Hey - I tried to burn recovery discs for my new rig with Sony brand DVD+Rs, and after gathering info, writing, and finally checking, it tells me it's unsuccessful (this is after burning disc 1 of 2). I've tried a few times with the same result. Anyone know what the deal is here? Do I need a special high quality disc or could it be something else? Thanks.

This is a common problem, seen a few post the same, reason, your guess is as good as most I'd say (sony are way good for this task), easiest solution is probably buy the XP/Vista installation/recovery disc they're about 15 bucks or if you know someone with the exact same laptop who has disc's you can burn a copy of theirs.

Thanks for the feedback, S_P_Q_R. It's a bit of a relief to know that this is a common problem. I ordered recovery discs with my rig from HP, but I've read that it's best to burn your own in addition, so that's what I was doing. I suppose I'll just rely on the recovery discs I have.

Try burning them in 'safe mode'. That's what worked for me.

Glad it worked for you! I am starting to think this maybe a problem with notebooks that have Lightscribe drives. The DV5t I had didn't have a lightscribe drive and the disks burned fine. The I get a HDX16t and I have trouble. I noticed that you have a lighscribe drive also.
