Hi im just wondering if anyone out there is having the same trubble as me its just now and then all my quick launch buttons across the top of the keyboard in blue just stop working

And the only way to get them working again is flash the bios rom i did try to update the rom to the newest but its just the same if not worse

So i downgraded back to the old rom but its still doing it im getting sick of having to flash the bios everytime the the buttons go of

The lights stay on but they dont work so if anyone has had this problem and sorted it can you please let me know how you did it

    Cheers Leo

It's a commun issue on this serie
try to do a power cycle ( remove battery and ac adapter and hold the power on button for 3 min ) then reboot the unit.
it's important to have the bios updated and also the QLB driver.

    Hope this helps.

This happend to my right out of the box.

HPIT had me flash the Bios back to the old version. "f06" This seemd to fix the problem. But then they had me flash the Bios to F.13 to try and fix the TVCARD and webcam recording lockups I was having. Did not fix lockup problem
After comming out of Hibernate. The keys stopped working again.

I used the so called power cycle steps above to fix the problem.
This seemed to have worked. The buttons are still active now for a couple of weeks. Even comming out of Hibernate.

I'd be interested if you have any problems recording from your webcam. about QBCS Hung at startup or something like this error message in the
    Maintenance/Error and Solutions log.

Also, Please remember the HP 21 day no questions asked return policy. Don't be foolish like me and wait past the 21 days.

    Good Luck.

I've had this problem a few times with my HDX, what i do is to switch off, remove the AC power adaptor, remove the battery, press in the power button for about a minute, then insert the battery, then the power adaptor, and switch on, works a treat.

Don't bother flashing the BIOS all the time because that way you might mess up windows.

There is a link around here someplace that gives you instructions on how to get the webcam to work with MSN, Yahoo and other chat programs.
But it didn't work for me.
Maybe somone can point you to the link.

I bought one of these $9.00 XTATIX driverless USB webcams. It works great.
Now I'm looking into an Express TV card to fix that problem too.
Just incase HP does not have a fix for that.

It's a shame I can't use the built in webcam or TV Tuner card to record programs or videos.

Are these problems related to using hibernate only? What about using suspend (Non suspend to disk, just sleep)?

Yes, That's the thread I was talking about. It didn't fix my lockup problem.
I was hoping it did. Becuae at least it started to record for about 30 seconds, Then the screen went black where as the drivers that came with the HDX would make the screen go black and lockup as soon as I clicked the record button.

What about third party software. Does that work to record? Or is this issue only concerning the media/quickplay buttons above the keyboard?

Sorry some how we went from the quick launch keys to the webcam problem.
Lets see if we can get back to the Quick launch keys Hee hee.
Yes, The same lockup problem happens with ROXIO MYDVD software when you try to recod from the webcam or TV.

But Windows Media center does work and lets you record TV shows just fine.

So if I was guessing. I think one of the DLL libraries has some how gotton into the mix that should not be their. The DLL that Windows Media Center uses is fine. But the DLL's or some other part of the software that third party users provide with their applications wrong.

Anyways. We talked to one of HP's case mangers. He's looking into how we can get a new version of the QLB.exe that will let us change the way the buttons work in vista. There was an older version of QLP that let you select the application that a button used. But was changed for vista which only lets you change the sounds.

This way we can tell the "Q" button to launch Windows Media Player instead of "QuickPlay" which locks up when you try to record.

I thought the quickplay key (specifically the record button) being related to the webcam was part of the problem topic. I understand that the webcam can be accessed by quickplay. I was trying to figure out if it's the webcam or the quickplay software.

In any event, software which would allow one to change the assignment of the quickplay buttons would be ideal.

Hope you get the situation resolved. Best wishes and kindly keep us updated. :)

Your not having much luck at the moment !!!

I hope HP sorts your problems out, i had no such problems when i got my HDX.

Also, i think it's fair to say that most HDX owners don't have these types of problems, i do think this topic is a bad advert for the model.

    Now wait a minute.

How long have you had your HDX? OH! I think from reading one of your other posts. It's more then a month old.
Have you had it past 21 days. If not. I think. HP is vialating their policy but maybe even the consumer law of your state.

Anyways, I don't think it sounds like you talked to a case manager.

Are you sure you talked to a case manager in California or Texas? Not India???

Here is a trick to tell if you are really talking to a case manager. Or if the person is pretending to be.

The case manager will give you his/her last name along with the contact phone and extention.
If they say it's HP policy not to give out last names or some other BS why they will not give you a last name. Then it's not a real case manager.
It may be his/her assistant but you need to make sure you are talking to a case manager.

    Good Luck

Daft" That's a good word. Join the club. For some strange reason I trusted that HP support would get back to me with a solution too. So I also let my 21 days pass.

But I'm hoping to hear back from the case manager this week with some sort of solution. I will let you know what happens.

Like I said I can only hope.
But after speaking to a very nice person at HP a real case manger after being tricked into thinking I was talking to a real one the 1st time I got switched and he never got back to me.

I then called once again. Got a real one, who has worked for HP for many years. He told me he was one of the lucky ones that did not get let go. When Hp had that big 10,000 employee dump 9 or so years ago.

This nice sounding case manager talked to me for an hour and after looking at the case report said quote "Oh my god" and told me he was also now upset that support never got back to me with a fix,

He then called me back and asked me some more questions about my HDX.
That's right He called me back.

He told me he would get back to me this week with some kind of solution and kept apologizing for the poor HP service.

    Anyways. Wish me luck.
