Hey I'm having an issue w/ my hp webcam. Whenever i open the hp webcam mediasmart software, a window pops up and says that the webcam either isn't connected, or is being used by another program. I've restarted my computer and it's not being used by anything else, but it still says this. Suggestions?

If that didn't do it then you've probably got something like Skype or another process running in the background that's setup for using a Webcam. Instant Messenger programs use them; anything with Video Email, etc. If it's running, it considers the Webcam its own personal property, and won't release it to another program. That's why I'm really particular about what I let startup and run. Most people just install and forget about a program, or don't realize that the processes they create can cause other problems.

So... Think about the programs you use for personal communication or that can also use a webcam that's running in the background as a process - AIM, Windows Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, etc. You get the idea. Skype is probably the most obvious though.
