I had Cyberlink youcam installed on my HP dv5t when i got it. I installed a freeware called manycam from download.com, but didn't like the software as much as youcam. Once i uninstalled manycam, however, suddenly none of the features such as color changes or lenses (bulge, mirror, etc.) were available in youcam. After many uninstallations and reinstallations of both youcam 1 and youcam 2 with HP customer support, youcam still won't let me use the features it once had, though i've seen the necessary files in the program files folder. Any suggestions?

    System restore is an option.
If not, where did you install reinstall from? The SWSetup folder or from cyberlink website?

Anyway, considering both softwares use webcam things, the installation of manycam might have messed with the registry.

Try reinstalling from SWsetup if you didn't try it yet. You probably installed the software, but did not install any of the features like skins/wallpapers/etc.

I'd uninstall the Cyberlink Youcam and reinstalling it from scratch from the HP site after downloading it.

Sadly my restore points for vista don't go back far enough to undo whatever manycam did, and when i uninstall and reinstall from HP i get the same results.

An actual system restore from the hdd partition or recovery disks that you create, not the restore points.

If there's a whole recovery partition that came with the notebook, how might I access a restore point there?

You are not trying to get to a restore point. Since you already tried doing that, your last option will be a complete system restore. You will lose all files, your laptop will be returned to factory conditions. To access this, reboot comp and immediately tap the F10 key or F11 to reach the recovery partition on the hdd.

The way I see it your option are limited:

    1)Buy the Youcam software, that's 35 bucks
    2)Do a recovery
3)Look around for another free “camware” that you can live with.
4)Frig around with your registry, because that's where I believe you lost/changed data when un-installing the other cam software

    I'd go with 3

Guess so. Well i recently got the notebook and i have a nice external hard drive so i might just go with the recovery unless i find a better program out there, though i've looked. Thanks for all the great help though, I really appreciate it.

I am a firm believer in Revo Installer. It'll run the programs installer and then search files that still exist and registry keys in use. Either find a good registry cleaner or install manycam and uninstall it with revo. See if that helps.
