Hi, i've searched around and can't find an answer to my problem, but hopefully someone can help.

This morning I turned my laptop on and tried to unmute it (cause I had muted it the night before) but it didn't work, so I had to do it using the volume icon instead of the touch button on the keypad. I figured it was just because I rushed when I turned it on so maybe something hadn't loaded.

I turned it off and tried again later, but still none of the buttons work. It usually makes that beeping noise when you hit the buttons, but I get nothing. At the moment the mute button is shining red instead of blue, even though it's not muted. It's like it's frozen or something.

    Any ideas?

I'm on HP Pavillion laptop DV9000.

Incase i've done a bad job of explaining the buttons I mean above, here's a picture: http://www.notebooks.com/wp-content/uploads/hpdv2000keyboard.jpg

I'm talking about the blue shining buttons along the top of the keyboard. None of them are working.

    Thanks :)

Did you uninstall the drivers/software? I think you need the "HP QuickLaunch Buttons" software from the HP website.

Hey thanks a lot for replying so quickly

I went on the website before that (sorry meant to mention that in my first post) and downloaded the drivers. There's apparently two types of dv9000 or something, HP Pavilion dv9000 CTO Notebook PC and HP Pavilion dv9000ea Notebook PC - I originally tried the CTO one. Then after your post I thought I'd better try the other one too, and did earlier today, but it still doesn't work. :(

    Any other ideas?

I don't have any other ideas. You should probably email hp and ask for help.

For what it's worth, I developed the same problem two weeks ago (though my mute button is stuck on blue, not orange). After several online chats with HP technical support (their suggestions being uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for Quicklaunch, etc.), the Quicklaunch touch keys still do not work. No audible chirp/beep when I touch them, either - and the same is the case when I boot the machine into XP. Since they do not work in either OS, I'm starting to worry that it's a hardware issue.

Anyone else have any ideas for me and Hazzy?

    Thanks,

    Evan

I have a DV9000, that I purchased back in December, and mine still work fine... I've even disabled all HP related software that starts up on your computer (which disables quick launch while in XP and every other button special button but the volume). So because I can use my touch volume buttons without any of the HP software running and while all the other buttons are disabled, I dont think its anything HP software can fix.

Have either of you installed any weird software lately? The first time it stopped working, were you turning it on from a hibernate, standby, or off state? Try going into MSCONFIG and disabling all HP related software (like I have mine).

Hope this may have helped a bit.

I have had this problem on my previous dv9000 when updated to newer driver for HD Audio. Just uninstall it and download the previous version which does the job. Good luck!
