I have been having problems with my HP Pavilion zv5000 Pentium 4. Everytime I hit the power button nothing happens, only a couple of times has it turned on and booted up but then it just shuts off and then it wont turn on again when I hit the power button again. Only the power light stays on but nothing else is on, its not making any noise and the dvd drive doesnt work. When I plug in the Power cord the power light goes off and the lighting bolt light goes on like when it charges. But it still wont turn on with the power cord connected. One of the times when it finally did want to start up it kept going into hibernation. I hope I explained myself good. Can anybody please help me with this problem?

    Darkwing,
Welcome to HP user agony! I am unable to power my zx5000 notebook using the AC power adapter and plug on the back of my notebook. My battery no longer powers my unit, though the battery is fine. The only way I can power my notebook is through the expansion port on the side. You can purchase a notebook expansion base or the xc1000 media cable to power your notebook through this port. Sad, but this is the cheapest solution.

I was hoping a class action lawsuit would develop to cover the cost of this familiar HP problem. zv- and zx5000 models are notorious for this problem. A new motherboard will cost nearly $500. Check out www.ikenfixit.com for repair options.

I wonder if this somewhat often malfanction has something to do with the extra heat from the P4 processor. In any case it sucks.
