If you installed or modified software and the buttons stopped working you may want to perform a System Restore to a date when the buttons were working as they should.

If that doesn't work, you might try to reinstall the "HP Quick Launch Button" software which you can download from HP support and driver downloads for your laptop version.

If you know where to find system restore try that, if you don't try googling "how to do a system restore in Vista"
If that doesn't work go here
    Support & Troubleshooting
enter you model number and follow the prompts, might be a good idea to bookmark your Select software and drivers page.

    Hey,

Had the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv7 1150eg. Lights have been on, but no function, neither QuickPlay, nor Wlan button, nor volume control.

Redownloaded "HP Quick Launch Button", but I've forgotten to deinstall the old one before- I know classic mistake. So in the end I've deinstalled both of them, "Quick Touch 1.00 D2" and "Quick Play 3.7" as well.

So I've rebooted my notebook to download it afterwards, but after rebooting the buttons are suddenly working again. Don't have a clue why.

With the search function I' ve tried to find a hidden HP QuickPlay program, which I might have forgotten to deinstall. But nothing...

I mean, I'm quite happy that the buttons are working again. But just don't like the fact, that I don't have an explanation for it. Cos if it happens again, I wouldn't know where to look for the problem.

Does anyone have an idea, how it could have happened?

    Thanks.
    Merry Christmas.

I updated with the new software and it started working again. Then it stopped working, and started working again for no reason so I too don't have an explanation. I remember someone posted a security update for the quick launch buttons but I can't find it on the HP site. Does anyone have a link by any chance?
