I just purchased a dv9000 this past weekend and everything seems to be working fine except for the fact that I have a screen pop up every 5 minutes telling me I need to register my new HP. Well it lists 3 options "Register Now" , "Remind me later", and "Do not remind me anymore" and I have gone through the steps of each option many, many times and it still keeps popping up. It is really getting aggravating and I would appreciate it if anybody could help eliminate this problem.

P.s. I found this on another thread and was going to try it but there is no "HPRun" listed under my startup programs.

    1. Click the Window Logo Key
    2. Type "MSConfig" in the search box and hit enter.
    3. Choose "Selective Startup" radio button
    4. Click Tab Labeled "Startup"
    5. Uncheck "HPRun"
    6. Click "Apply"
    7. Restart the computer

I would suggest that you try the "do not remind me again" and restart if that ofcourse doesn't work you should go into MSCONFIG but the app may not be HPRun it may be under a different name. Download Toolbarcop it has options to delete the registry entries for startup and browser addins. This program will be listed there.

I was having the same problem with the registration pop-up. I used msconfig
to disable all startup items and all non microsoft services and still got the
pop-up. So I turned off "User Account Control" when the registration
window poped up again I selected "Do not remind me anymore" then turned
"User Account Control" back on. I have not seen the registration pop-up
again. I may have restarted windows after I turned off "User Account Control"
just to make sure it took effect, but I don't think it's necessary.

To turn off "User Account Control":
Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off
    Click continue when prompted.
    Uncheck "Use User Account Control..."
    Click OK

I am running Vista Home Priemium on an HP DV9287cl

Yea I had to turn off my "user account control" because it was screwing up my game installs and I registered while account control was turned off but it is still popping up. This is really getting annoying, does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I don't have an HP yet but I may give you some ideas. Open up your task manager and select the Processes tab at the top. Next take into account all the image names that are running. Now I would wait till this pop up is up so look at each task and write each one down that looks weird. Google each task you see and should tell you what it is and may be how to remove it or bypass it. Running an anti-sypware program like ad-aware or hyjack should be able to pickup any weird processes. I hope this helps out.

hey man!! i figured that **** out, the registration thingy.. here is what i did that worked.. please try it and let me know if it works for you,, if it does please tell others.

    go to:

    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SDP\HPSdpApp.exe

    and rename HPSdpApp.exe to HPSdpApp_stp.exe

the reason i renamed this ****ing .exe that casues all of our insane registration pop up problems is just incase it needs to be used for some reason. so i just added "_stp" to stand for "stopped" to remind me that this is the one..

i went into the Reminder.xml file in this same folder and read the code and this is the .exe that is launched when its time to remind you to register.. it seems that the register thingy isnt properly writing to the comptuer telling it that its already done it etc...

anyway.... please let me know if this works for you. i really hope it does, casue this may be alot of peoples problem. hopefuly it can help them.. please repost and or tell others who may be having this problem.

    cheers!

    Check these entries. Be careful.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

I had the same problem with my new HP9230. The registration reminder was coming up every 30 minutes no matter what I did. I emailed the folks at HP and they told me to disable registration in the task scheduler - this has solved the problem for me :) Hope it helps!

Here are the detailed instructions they emailed to me below ---

To resolve the issue please perform the below steps :

    1. Click the Vista Button, and in the area labeled start search type
    in Task Scheduler
    2. Click on the result at the top; Task Scheduler
    3. Click on Continue if you are prompted with User Access Control asking
    for permission

Disable all the following tasks if listed :

    * ExtendedService Plan - After Triggered, repeat every 30 minutes
    indefinitely.
    * HPCeeScheduleForryan After Triggered, repeat every 6 hrs for 3000 hrs
    (30.00:00:00)
    * InternetServiceOffers After Triggered, repeat every 30 minutes
    indefinitely.
    * Norton Internet Security Every Friday of every week
    * Registration After Triggered, repeat every 30 minutes indefinitely.
    * ServicePlan Multiple Triggers Defined

I open the task scheduler, but the option to disable the registration task is not available. Anyone else encounter this?
