Just got a Hp Compaq 6535b, and i cant get photoshop to start on it. IT just freezes on start...Installing it took too long, and uninstalling it took waaaay to long.

reinstalled XP and again, same problem.

Could a conflict with some drivers produce this? anything reported on this issue around the net?

On the other hand, the hard drive, from day one, makes a clacking noise everytime it reads anything...is this normal?? Could a bad HD be the cause of this photoshop problem??

Im going nuts here...bought it specially to work with photoshop...so any help or comments will be very apprec.

    Thanks in advance!

How audible is that clicking noise?
Clicking hard drives are usually failing hard drives (though some sound is normal)...

Gab, I have found that unless your Adobe installation is perfect, it will not behave. I have had to reinstall CS3 many times because the initial installation had something go wrong. It may be that you need to restart the computer into limited service mode (not safe mode) and install it again.

I agree with Hep, if it is clicking it could be dying. I believe that a simple scratch or r/w sound is normal, but if its clacking almost, then it could be an issue. Can you run HD TUNE, HDD Health, HDD Life, or manufacturer software to check on the SMART information of the drive?

In a quiet room i dont even need to put my ear on the keyboard to hear it... In normal use position i can hear it clearly. Have next to me a 2.5 HD in a case as external drive, and it goes as quiet as it can go...ive worked with several laptops the last years and never heard one doing this noise...

Backup any important data immediately and run a hard drive test with the drive manufacturer's tools.

I would still test your drive. It won't be by HP, but by whoever made the drive in your laptop (Western Digital, Seagate, etc)
You can find out what you have by checking in device manager (right click my computer and hit properties) then click the hardware tab and click "device manager"
Then under hard drives you'll have a model number, google search that and you'll find out who made it. Then that manufacturer will have a tool.
    Examples:
    Seagate SeaTools
    Hitatchi DriveFitness
Western Digital DLG (Data Life Guard)
