Since late yesterday the scroll wheel on the touchpad of my Presario hasn't been working - instead when I try to scroll it just moves the mouse pointer around as would any other part of the touchpad. I've been in Control Panel (I use Vista Premium) to mouse hardware options. Each time I open it there is a message saying that "Unable to connect to the Synaptics pointing Device Driver" - but the mouse panel still opens after that error message. Does that have something to do with the problem? Also, the "Wheel" tab in Control Panel>Mice doesn't say anything peculiar about the scroll wheel not scrolling.

Yesterday in my "Shadow Dilemma" I blocked all start up programs. Maybe this has something to do with it?

To add to this - it is not only the internet in which this is a problem - all other applications treat the scroll as any other part of the touchpad.

Just try to reinstall the driver for Synaptics. Usually helped.

Done. Thanks a lot suland. I had to go into Device Manager, which then searched for updates and it reinstalled Synaptics or something.
