Hello everybody, first of all, let me tell you that my english is not perfet so i will try to describe the problem.

I bougth my HP DV5 1022 three days ago, everything worked perfect, but when the computer is not being used and it turns off the screen to "hibernate" or "sleep", when i move the mouse to wake it up appears the welcome screen but immediately the screen turns black and does not answer. The computer is on and the screen is black, not turned off, black.

I tried moving mouse, pushing all butons, closing the laptop, and the screen is dead yet.

Why? is perhaps an operative system bad installation? (vista)
or the model HP DV5 1022 is simply..... garbage?

I'm very worried because i can't download movies and archives when i'm sleeping, because when i wake up to see the progress, the pc screen dead.

    what's your opinion?

    thank you.

This reply may not solve the problem, but it would certainly make your life easier.

Disable what the computer does when you close the lid if you have it hibernating or going into standby. No matter what mode your computer is in it's going to use power from the AC charger. Just set the close lid to "Do nothing" and close the lid when you sleep. You shouldn't notice any difference in power usage nor would your downloads be affected. When you hop on the computer the next day, you're all set.

The black screen is most likely just a software issue. I have seen an instance where the hard drive was failing, but very unlikely in your case. The DV5 series is a very nice notebook and should not ever be considered "garbage."

Thanks for your help Infamous i'll put on practice your suggestions. However, this afternoon i'll go to the store i bought it and tell the issue.

I have another question... when the screen is dead, there are two little lights or leds turning on and off, on and off...just at the left side of "bloq mayus" and above "bloq num"...

do you know what's the function of those lights?... i think that means something, but i din't find information on catalogue and web.

    thank you

If the power light is blinking that means the notebook is in standby.

The power light is at the front side. The lights i'm talking about are around keyboard.
