Hello guys, here are the specs of my HP

    Core i5 540m 2.53ghz
    4 GB ram
    Nvidia GT 230m 1GB DDR3

I have been playing a few games like Borderlands and Modern Warefare 2, but now I have noticed that after playing these games for about 10-15 minutes, the FPS drops from 60 to around 5-10, and It is starting to really frustrate me. It is happening to all the games that I play, like World at War and Call of Duty 4 are doing the same thing. It doesn't matter what stage I pick, after 10-15 minutes of gameplay the frams drop from silky smooth to unplayable... what can I do? Ill be looking at this Thread every few minutes if anyone has some suggestions.

Might be a heating issue? I heard that on some models, if your gpu gets too hot it automatically throttles down

Alright, any way I could fix this issue? Sorry i dont have a lot of experience with computers

edit: and also a few months ago I could play Modern Warefare 2 with ease and this would never happen!

Are you sure the game itself isn't corrupt or anything?

You can check to see if you're overheating by running a temperature monitoring program. HWMonitor works nicely.

So just run that program, play a game for 30 minutes or so, or until whenever the framerate gets too unbearable, then get out of the game and check the max temperature recorded by hwmonitor. Idk what the thermal specs are on the gt 230m, but usually anything well over 90 degrees C will probably result in throttling.

Something like that but much worse happened to my Thinkpad, it would get hot enough to bluescreen just doing Aero. It turns out they did a crappy job with the thermal paste initially and it got much worse after a few months of use. So I would think about that as a possibility.
