Hello. I have a Compaq Presario 700 with Windows XP.
Yesterday i was downloading windows xp service pack 2, because that is part of the updates. And at the half of the download, it failed, and there were some things that said ''connection failed'' and things like that. It got stuck. Then i tried to restart the computer, but it did not start normally again. Instead, after it loads with the Windows XP home edition load page, it just stops, the screen becomes strange with diffirent colors, and it starts over again..everytime this happens.

But now the pc gave me some options. I could choose one of these options(I will try to translate to English)
    Safety Mode
    Safety Mode with Net possibilities
    Last known right configuration
    Restart windows normally

And still none of these really work. The screen just stops and it restarts over again. All because of failing to install windows xp service pack 2. Can you please help me, can i fix this problem or do i really need to format everything over again? Thank you very very much if you help.

If you have an XP install CD [not a recovery CD].Boot the CD and bring the install, choose upgrade, tell it to upgrade the current XP installation. This usually works.

Yes i have an xp install cd(i did not use his cd to install the windows xp on my laptop though) and i can do that. So i basicely choose the latest upgrade for the current xp installation? And you are sure i won't lose anything from C? Because i will definitely try right now.

Hey this is fantastic. I just installed Windows XP over again, and turns out that no harm was done at all.
Thanks for the advice people. I might have done somthing else and lost everything.

yeah that technique doesnt always work as I have experienced before myself but it is a good option to try out at least.
