I know a lot about computers, not much about batteries. I do know that you shouldn't let your laptop battery die a lot.

So I get this used lappy, half price because the battery wont hold a charge any longer, its the HP DV6000. Its only a year old, but the battery just didn't hold a charge, and It wouldn't work without it being plugged in, which isn't a big deal for me.

But since the new batteries were only 60 bucks I bought one. Today while the wife and I were looking at movie trailers online (good ol' apple) the laptop just shut off.

Of course i'm thinking "oh ****" It wont turn on...I notice that the light where I plug the power cord in is flashing.

now here's the tricky part. I can take the battery out and put the old one in, and it will power/boot up. I can take the new battery out and just run it straight off the power cord and it will power/boot up. As soon as I put in the new battery it wont power up. All i get is the rapidly flashing power light where the power cord plugs in...no other lights.

So what do you think? I didn't let it charge all the way before using it, but I kept the power cord in while using thinking it would charge while in use...Was I wrong? and did I just kill the new battery?

The laptop was on for less than 30 minutes.

where did u buy the battery from? maybe the battery is faulty.. maybe it has a short inside which prevents the laptop from turning on to prevent anything from messing up. just guessing.

I had a similar problem while running on battery recently. Since this is a different model HP computer and the problem was actually caused while playing a game fullscreen (thus I have no clue if the battery completely drained or not), this is a shot in the dark. But you may want to try this method and see if it works anyway.

Remove the battery and the power cable. Hold down your power button for about 30 or 40 seconds. Put the battery and power cable back in. Power on the computer using AC. It should be able to turn on now. If not, then I'm afraid you've got a different problem. But this is what the HP tech support guy led me through when I experienced the problem. Only differences aside from obvious computer model differences that I experienced from your situation is that mine would not turn on at all - even with AC power and no battery inside and all of my status lights (except quickplay lights, of course) were flashing, but only when I pressed the power button to attempt to turn it back on.

This solved it except It still wouldn't power on until I left it plugged in all night without trying to turn it on.

I think that even though I left it plugged in it still drained what was left of the battery.

Well it worked, however it runs on battery power and ignores the power cord, when the battery goes dead it shuts off the computer, and I have to pull the now dead battery out and put in the old dead battery which wont hold a charge or just run it without a battery....Really perplexing to me.

Anyone having the same sort of problem? It SHOULD run on battery but only if the power cord is unplugged.
