A few days ago I noticed that my wifi was not working. I made sure it was not just my IP (which happens a lot) and then I saw that the little wireless quickplay button was orange (off). When pressed a popup would say that it was now on, but it still would not work. After a while I just did a system restore and it worked fine.

Now today I have the same problem. Light is orange, and when I diagnose as to why it cant connect it says my laptops wifi is turned off even though it says it is on.

What is going on here? Its driving me crazy. I didn't install any new drivers or anything that would affect that.

    * Update to the latest WiFi drivers from the WiFi Adapter's Manufacturer Website

    * Check Device Manager for any hardware errors. Esp. under the Network Section

    * Boot into the BIOS and ensure the WiFi Adapter is enabled.

I saw two wireless adapters in the device manager and no problems, so I guess thats fine. Are you talking about the drivers from the hp site? If not, link please?

    Thanks

Ok well I updated the bios and it restarted and the light is now blue :(

I see a lot of people with this problem on hp laptops. Im kind of a computer newb so can you explain how I could look at the bios and see if its there next time? Any way I could make sure its not a motherboard problem like other people have had?

to go into the bios: turn off the lp, then press F10 and turn it on again.
leave your finger on F10 til you see the setup.
my "experience" with the same problem:
first time the blue light didn't come on, I was told to update the bios.
that helped for almost 2 days. then, the same again.
I disconnected the wires form the modem, put it back on, it worked for a day. then the same again.
HP send me a new wireless modem. I changed that, worked for a week, then:
    the same........
I send it in, it came back, saying, motherboard was bad.
worked for about 2 months. same thing .............
I said, the hell, bought a Linksys wireless usb, turned the lp modem off.
    still works !
by the way: if you updated your bios to version F.3B then make sure to check your temperatur.
    (just thinking).
