Okay,so I have been off these boards for a while;exams and all crept up on me.I'd like to say thank u to everyone who has given me advice in the 2 yr saga of me and my PC.
Pursuant to my last post,I downloaded SeaTools and scanned my system.I found some bad sectors on my hard drive but everything else seemed fine.It kept on loading very slowly and making this crackling sound over the speakers when it was loading.
Five days ago,it froze up.I shut down, rebooted and the screen refused to come on.The power lights came on,one of the fans started spinning, the HD spun up briefly and that was it.There has been no further response since then.Oh,the DVD-ROM drive opens when the power is on.
I am still in Africa and there is no chance of getting it to a certified HP tech.Kinda ironic as I bought a HP bc they had a Service Center relatively nearby;turns out they don't handle Pavilions.
    2.8GHz Pentium 4
    512MB RAM
100GB Seagate 5400RPM[installed 3 months ago after HD failure]
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 64MB graphics card
    Bought Feb 2004
Sent for repairs 3 times since then;none covered by warranty.
Three major system faults in 2 years;needless to say this is very likely the last HP product I'll ever buy.Meantime I need this one to last me till Vista comes out.Any ideas what's wrong? And how do I fix it?
