I have recently reinstalled my Win XP system on my HP laptop with Intel Core 2 duo T5600 and now I have huge problems with thermal managment profiles. When I set the laptop/portable setting the processor should go from 1800Mhz to 1000mhz, but instead it jump's to 215Mhz and the whole system gets so slow as if I'm using P2 or P3,maybe even slower (Firefox takes ages to load, start menu appears after 2 sec and so on).

What can I do about it?

Yea sure, I could use another setting like minimal power managment or max battery but then the processor jump's to full speed whenever i play music or movies or just start firefox.

Try using NHC or RMClock to control the power management profile rather than WinXP. It may also have something to do with your chipset driver. Mine goes between 1 and 2 ghz.

I believe the advanced options in power profiles for Vista let you control the minimum and maximum speeds the cpu is allowed to throttle however I dont know if a similar tool exists for Windows XP.
