So I just bought the V2000z and can abrely connect to the internet...

I also have this 3yr old Compaq Presario 2100 with a PCMCIA D-Link wireless adapter than works like a charm! And yet the brand new V2000z Broadcom wireless card has the slowest connection ever by far!!

Both laptops show the same signal strength (very good) and the same connection speed (11.0mbps through my old Belkin router), however the old laptop is much faster loading web contents...

Any body else having similar issues??

I chatted with an HP tech and they are sending me a replacement wireless card...I'll check it out and if it doesn't work I'll return this laptop too...

Try flashing in the current firmware for your router? You're sure it's the wireless connection that's the problem?

How much RAM is in your V2000z? If it's only 256MB, you'll be hitting virtual memory hard and that will make everything slow.

    Thanks for the reply Brian...
The firmware on the router is up to date and I have restted it several times...Ina ny case, I'm sure the router is not the issue since my older laptop works perfect with it...

I have 512KB of RAM in my notebook so that shouldn't be an issue either...weird uh?

The replacement wireless card should be here Monday (which kinda sucks because I talked to hp on Tuesday), we'll see...

I doubt it's the wireless card. If it works, even slowly, then it should be OK. Probably the problem is the compatibility between the WIFI and the router.

    Thanks for the post...

what you are saying is: Buy another router? I don't know a whole lot about computers but it doesn't sound right to me that a newer hardware supposed to be back-compatible doesn't work...

Yes, get a new router. There are many things that would affect the WiFi data transmission rate. One thing you may try for now is to force your wireless card to use 802.11b only. By default it is set to auto rate and that may also affect its performance. It would be better to get a router with Broadcom chipset that supports 125. There are some proprietry protocols depending on the chipset that would affect the performance. If you get a matching pair, you'll get a higher throughput.

I'm getting a new router anyways but it all sounds kind of bogus to me...if a wireless card says that is 802.11b compatible it should be, period...

The router works just fine with my older Compaq laptop...

    Hi everyone

i am having the same problems with my Compaq V2630. It doesnt connect to the network that well and i recently read an article about Atheros and Broadcom having problems with there chips complying to different routers! I havent tested my laptop with other routers yet. But i suppose the problem will be the same. I think its the problem with the frequency as i think that the newer cards are very sensitive. So any disturbance can blow them of the course. Try a different placement of your router. Try moving away from the microwave and 2.4 Ghz phone and those small monitors. I havent experienced much difference but my house is small...maybe you can get something better out of it.

I had a similar problem setting up my son's V5000. When we first got it up and running the Broadcom card could see the router but it wouldn't get a solid connection for love or money. After updating drivers and toying with settings for about an hour I finally fixed it by going in and manually adding the notebooks MAC address to the routers list of "allowed devices" so it would allow it to connect. Worked like a charm after that. Kind of weird since we have two other notebooks in the house (one using Apple's Airport and the other an Intel 3945ABG) that connected right up on first boot.
