Hey everyone,
Getting kind of frustrated here, I've been having issues with both Ventrilo & Teamspeak for the entire life of my HPDV6707US notebook. Problem is, both programs will lock up my entire computer for around 30 seconds when attempting to do certain things in the software.
Before I get into any more depth, here are my current system / software specs:
HP Pavilion dv6707us (6000 series)
Windows Vista Premium SP1 (6.0, Build 6001)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57
1918MB RAM
DirectX 10
NVIDIA MCP67M
Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 (Driver: 4.36.7.60 A - Latest)
Built in Mic / Webcam
USB / External Devices:
Logitech V450 Nano
Logitech Premium Notebook Headset (Direct Plug, Not USB)
Software:
Ventrilo 3 (Latest stable build)
Teamspeak 2 (Latest stable build)
I have been to both the Ventrilo and Teamspeak official forums with this issue and have yet to have any kind of answer.
I personally believe this is a hardware/driver issue, but I don't have enough experience with HP, SmartAudio, or Vista to make the call.
Issue with Teamspeak is a ~45 second lockup when launching and closing the program, and a slight lag / lockup when going into sound settings within the program. Although when I go into Task Manager > Processes and close the teamspeak.exe process manually there is no lockup.
Issue with Ventrilo is a ~30 second lockup when pressing the "Connect" button to connect to a server, entering "Setup" at any time while using the program and when closing Ventrilo within the Ventrilo GUI. Like Teamspeak, when ending the ventrilo.exe process, I experience no lockup.
As far as what I've done to troubleshoot this issue, I've probably messed with every setting I could think of, given both executables full administrator privliages, ran both as administrator, disabled Vista's annoying "Are you sure?" software, and removed all USB devices. Still no resolve.
All I've come up with is this:

Touches a bit on my issue, and as you can see in the thread there's a few people with my issue. Most of them being HP DV series owners, the others were having problems with their Logitech G15.
Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated, I've been tweaking with this software for months now, and I'm out of ideas. Thank you in advance for your time.

This may be a stretch but since the programs are audio in nature try disabling the on screen Volume Display program. This has caused slow down / freezing issues with many programs.
1. Click the Vista start icon, bottom left.
2. Type RUN in the Start Search box, ENTER.
3. Type MSCONFIG in the OPEN: area, Click OK.
4. Click on Continue if asked.
5. Select the StartUp Tab in the System Configuration menu.
6. Remove the Checkmark from the HP Quicktouch On Screen Display item.
7. Click on OK and Restart if required.
Reverse above procedure to restore to original if desired
The HP QuickPlay item in MSCONFIG has also caused computer freezing for periods of time with certain programs you may want to try unchecking that as well if the above doesn't work. -
I should also note my friend purchased a slightly better HP laptop, it's 17 inch, has the same IGP and Soundcard, but it's an AMD Turion @ 2.1gHz. Ventrilo works flawlessly for him.
Still looking for a solution, will post back if I find one. -

Solution:
Found the solution for both Vent and Teamspeak, someone suggested something down at the Ventrilo forums and it worked. If anyone else so happens to stumble across this thread with a problem similar to mine I'll post how to fix it so they don't get as annoyed as I did.
I've heard multiple people complain about similar problems from HP DV5 / 6 / 9 series laptops, so if you're Ventrilo / Teamspeak is freezing, here is your solution.
Solution for Ventrilo Users:
Start up Ventrilo, go into Setup, and find the check box labeled "Use Direct Input to detect Hotkey" in the Voice tab. Uncheck it, there you go, this worked for me.
Solution for Teamspeak Users:
Start up Teamspeak, go to Settings > Options, and click the "Other" tab. Check the box labeled "Disable Direct Input".
Note: I use voice activation on Teamspeak and Push to talk on Vent, I have no idea if these settings interfere with your personal setup, but this worked for me.
Good luck. -
I know this is a old thread..................Thank you for the post. You have solved my problem.

The solution that was posted worked perfectly, thanks so much! We've started using Teamspeak 3 and of course I'm having the same problem so if anyone could direct me as to where the option to turn this off is for ts3 that would be great!
