I've got a brand-new dv4000 (2 weeks old) and am having some problems with it. Whenever I use the latest ATI Mobility Catalyst Drivers (I've tried 5.13 and 6.1) and I close the lid on my laptop, then open it back up again, the screen sometimes doesn't come back on. This is probably driver related as whenever I use the stock HP ATI Radeon x700 Drivers, this problem has never happened.

I know that you should always use the drivers from manufacturers as the are designed for your laptop but they rarely get updated!!! I really need the option to enable PowerPlay when on AC which the HP driver doesn't have. How often does HP update drivers? I'd rather not be stuck with these for so long. :(

Do you have it to sleep when you close the lid...or just shut off the screen?

Yeah there is a setting where you can determine how it behaves whenever you shut the lid. I can't think of where this setting is right off the bat. I'll look when I get home.

It's supposed to go to sleep.

If you want drivers, try searching either ATI's site or Driverheaven.com.

I know where to find the latest ATi Mobility Drivers, it's just that they seem to make my laptop go into permanent sleep when I close the lid and nothing happens when I open it back up.

So I'm just wondering how often HP has updated/might update it's official x700 drivers for the dv4000, because having a laptop with a gimp standby is very annoying.

I don't keep track of when HP updates their drivers, but I would suspect they won't be updated for a while. Check out the drivers on the other sites I posted and see if they work for you. Otherwise you can always try updating the drivers manually through the Control Panel.

I do have DV4000 which I bought it from Costco about 6 months ago. Almost similar configuration but not with ATI Video Card.

Lately I am facing strange problem with the machine. Machine just stops. I can't move the cursor or swtich application etc. Nothing works - kind of freezes. After continous shaking the machine or open/close CD Drive will bring the machine back to life. Unable to figure out the root cause yet.

To me it looks like your problem is also similar so I am not sure it's due to ATI Drivers.
