I have bought my HP ZV6000 about 2 months ago from Office Depot. Recently I have been having problems with my dvd rw/cd rw drive. When I put in a cd or dvd, it skips a few times every second. It is kind of like it is stuttering in audio and in video, making it unable to be watched or listened to. This is hapening with both brand new dvds and cds as long as old ones. Does anyone have any similar problems or idea of what is going wrong? Help is greatly appreciated, seeing as I don't want to have to return it because I don't want to go through the waiting time of it being rebuilt. Thanks

It sounds like a defective drive. I'd see if they'll let you just pull it out and send it in, rather than returning the entire machine.

Yeah, give HP a call and explain what has happened. They will most likely send out the drive to you - it's easy to replace. On the bottom of your notebook, there are two screws underneath where the drive is - just remove those, and the drive will slide free.

Let us know how it goes ;)

Or use this as an opportunity to upgrade to a nice DVD burner.

Ok just got finished with talking with HP and they maded me go through tech suport. And after 45 minutes of phone support the drive is working again. They had me change some properties with the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (the secondary IDE channel) and to my amazement it worked! I also thought it was a bad drive and asked if they could replace it, but I'm glad I took 45 minutes to get my drive up and running again. Thanks for all of your guys's help.
