    I got my Compaq V3000T in Aug 30th 2006.
    Config: 2GHz Duo Core 2
    2 GB Ram
    120 GB HDD
    CD/DVD Writer

First thing i noticed abt the laptop was a dead pixel on the top left of the screen. Clearly visible as a bright spot on the black boot-up screen.

I was ready to live with it: wasnt causing any issues with normal work.

    Started finding other issues :
The touchpad buttons - The right button got stuck. This happened once when i moved the system around. I closed the lid, inverted the system, the issue was resolved !! seems to be a mechanical prob with the button.

The Left button : The button would register only if i click at the left side of it. This means that the middle click functionality (usually by clicking the buttons together at the center) would not work.

The CD Drive: The Drive door doesnt close if pressing at the end nearer to front. Only if i press the door at the rear end of it, it closes shut. A lil hard to close. Even after closing, if i press a little hard at the top of the drive or accidentally happen to press at the drive door, the drive starts to read the disk. This happens even when i move the system around. Very irritating.

The Keyboard (Minor issue): The right side of the keyboard seems to be little projected up than the left. Not any issue, just the build. If i press the empty area between the right side Cntrl and left arrow buttons, the pad goes down a little.

Most of the above issues are either build issues with the one piece i got or for all V3000 systems. I have decided to return mine (luckily within the return time of 21 days). But would like to know if the above problems were only for my V3000 or ... are these inherent probs with V3000..?? Especially the Drive and touchpad buttons.

I would like to order another V3000 if i can confirm this. Or any other suggestions (going for an HP wouldnt make much difference... since they share same components.. or are they different) ??

    Anybody Help...!!!!

The HP dv2000t is basically the same notebook. The only problem I have had with mine is the touchpad suddenly getting stuck in up and down mode though it seems to be better lately. That and the battery is a little loose. Other than that it seems like a pretty solid little notebook for the price. Perhaps you just got a lemon which can happen.

What do you expect? Look where these things are made. Do you know how much the people get paid to put these together?

Find out and you will not be surprised about the quality.

Thanks for the reply guys.... what did u mean by the touchpad getting stuck?? was it abt the scroll zone?
Yeah the battery is a lil loose.. I wouldnt mind that?

Im not sure if the touchpad buttons are the same in dv2000 and V3000.

The drive open/close is not at all a problem for anyone? compared to dell laptops?

btw..I still like this notebook.. perhaps if i was unlucky to get this bad piece. i might try my luck again.. with V3000 .. wht say?

I went to the nearby circuit city to check out the V3000. It did not have a problem with the drive. Although not as smooth as the Thoshiba i found there.
The V3000 drive was similar to the dell's my friends have here. So i assume that the one i got was defective.

The touchpad buttons on the store model were good too... But Im still not convinced with the buttons.. are the buttons too "BUILT TO LAST" ? any V3000 users using the system for a while and still happy with the touchpad buttons..?

The Keyboard: I noticed that the V3000 that i found in the store also had a similar 'right side loose' syndrome... (as i had mentioned earlier, the keyboard goes down when pressed at the right side between cntrl and up-arrow key)

However, the V6000 which shares the same keyboard, was fine... the keyboard on that was firmly fixed at all ends. Similar was the case with HP models dv2000 (loose right end) dv6000 (firm) - my Qn to HP : is this a design flaw in the smaller models???

Anyways, Im having my V3000 returned tomorrow. Yet havent decided which one to go for... Maybe Ill start a new thread on that for your comments..

    Thanks

I have a V3020CA. I don't have much quibble with the hardware so far (and I hope that continues) :) . The only main problem I have is the keyboard. Here are my problems with the keyboard:

    1. The F4 button is not properly secured.
One day, I noticed it was off with the left side raised way up. I was able to fix it. I think the bottom left corner is missing a notch that allows it to be properly secured. The problem persist when I press too hard on the left bottom corner, but at least the button is not missing. This is where the rest of my keyboard issues begins.

    2. The right upper corner (Delete Key) of the keyboard.
No unsecured buttons, but if I press too hard, the area depresses considerably. I think there's empty space beneath it.

    3. Wavy keyboard look.
Basically what it says. At some angles, the keyboard looks like it has a wavy look with some areas raised and some depressed. This doesn't affect my typing, but only when I look at the keyboard while I type.

    4. The individual buttons.
Comparing with my old Toshiba notebook (circa late 2002), the keys on the Toshiba is more sturdy. If you press on one side, the entire key goes down. But with the Compaq I'm using now, you press one side of the key and the other side goes up a bit. It basically makes me cautious of typing too hard and too fast. This somewhat affects my typing.

I don't know why I didn't notice these issues before when I first got my notebook about a month ago. It may be me getting hung up with the excitement of a new computer. I've only noticed the issues these past few days beginning with that F4 key. I doubt it's due to me lugging my notebook to school, and I doubt it's me cause I'm very very very careful when it comes to my electronics. Anyway, I hope this provides someone with some insights on the V3000.

My DV2000T battery is actually tight or too tightly fitted, 12 cell though. The touchpad can be adjusted for correct speed using the control panel and for the screen...try to request LPL its better and less flaws if any. Dvd drive is hard to predict but since you feel loose on bottom right keys then maybe it wasn't assembled properly. I would change new lappy request LPL screen and mayb change your Rams....2gb ouchie in price. $105 for 1gb ram for Ocz at newegg
